Genevieve E. (MacLeod) Sanborn

Genevieve E. (MacLeod) Sanborn, known and loved by her family as Grammie, passed away peacefully on January 3rd, 2011 at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Needham. She was 93 years old. Born and raised in Presque Isle, Maine, Genevieve left home to study nursing at Newton Wellesley Hospital. After graduating, she enlisted in the army, and spent the duration of the war in England. A longtime Needham resident, Mrs. Sanborn worked as a nurse for many years at the former Glover Hospital in Needham.
The beloved wife for 45 years of the late Louis B. Sanborn, she was the loving mother of Susan E. Barton and her husband Donald of Ookala, Hawaii, Dianne Porcello and her husband William of Needham, Massachusetts, and the late Bruce Sanborn and his wife Freda Sanborn of Exeter Maine. Sister of Marguerite Ferraris of E. Waterboro ME. Cherished Grammie of William Porcello, Timothy Porcello, Danielle Porcello, Malia Thompson, Sean Barton, Reid Barton, Blaine Sanborn, Brooks Sanborn, and Heidi Sanborn.
A Celebration of Genevieve’s Life will be held in the Eaton Funeral Home 1351 Highland Ave Needham on Monday, January 10 at 12 Noon. Visiting will be held from 11AM to 12 Noon prior to the service. In lieu of flowers donations in Genevieve’s name may be made to the Beth Israel Deaconess-Needham Annual Fund c/o Office of Development, 330 Brookline Ave (BR), Boston MA 02215.
