Harold S. Green, a retired Firefighter for the City of Newton, of Needham and formerly of Newton, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, February 17, 2024. He was 84 years old.
Born in Quincy, the son of the late Harold S. and Ruth (Osterberg) Green and Norman Nicholson, Harold grew up in Newton and was a graduate of Newton High School, Class of 1958. He went on to serve in the US Navy and was honorably discharged from active duty in 1960. Harold joined the Newton Fire Department and retired in 1997, after 32 years of dedicated service to the city. He also worked at Harvey’s Hardware in Needham, where he was a welcome sight for over 30 years.
He was the beloved husband for 64 years of Claire (Pitocchelli) and loving father of William & Darlene Green, Robert & John Pendolari, Debra Sinerate, Kelly & Nick Vespa and Lesley & Larry Sugarman. Brother-in-law of Frank Pitocchelli. He was the proud grandfather “Papa” of Katie (Norvin)Jimenez, Erica Green, Beth Green, Kristen (Michael) Roache, Kim (Matt) Pitts, Mark Sinerate, Joseph Vespa, Michael (Kaleigh) Vespa, Jessica Sugarman, Samantha Sugarman and Rebecca Sugarman and the great grandfather of Kelly & Derek Jimenez, Matthew & Madeline Green, Liam, Brayden & Camden Roache, Christian & Drew Pitts.
Visting hours will be held in the Eaton Funeral Home, 1351 Highland Ave, Needham, on Thursday, February 22nd from 4-7pm. A Funeral Service will be held in the funeral home on Friday, February 23rd at 10am, followed by Interment with Military Honors at Newton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Harold’s name may be made to the American cancer Society (donate.cancer.org)
