Harold M. Knott of Newton passed away peacefully at Newton Wellesley Hospital on Dec. 20, 2021, at the age of 92.
He is predeceased by his parents Montague and Esther Knott, and his two sisters Marjorie Chalmers and Virginia Hebach. He will be greatly missed by his many loving nieces and nephews and their children.
A lifelong resident of Newton Lower Falls, Harold enjoyed his daily walks around the neighborhood and chatting with friends and neighbors.
He was a natural storyteller and local historian, and those who knew him loved hearing his stories of growing up, as he would say, “in the good old days of yesteryear.”
Harold enlisted in the US Army and served in the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge, he attended Boston University and graduated with a BA from the School of Communications. He worked for the railroad until his retirement in 1991.
Harold was a very friendly, easy-going gu who loved the outdoors and spending time with family. He was a master croquet player well into his 90s at the annual Fourth of July cookouts he hosted. He also loved spending summer days with family at Craigville Beach, a beach he had been going to since childhood.
Burial will be private, followed by a memorial service in the spring.
