Harriet Louise Ryberg Conroy
Harriet, beloved daughter of Bertil August Ryberg and Grace Risinger Ryberg was born on April 3, 1933 in Lowell, MA and died May 24, 2022, Needham, MA. Harriet grew up in Andover, MA, Wyoming, OH, and Wareham, MA and was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society, graduating from Connecticut College in 1955. Harriet married James E. Conroy III, July 4, 1956 in Wareham, MA. With Jim, Harriet raised her children in Scituate and Duxbury, MA and Bedford, NH prior to finishing her career in Holden, MA and retiring to Osterville, MA. Her husband Jim predeceased her in August of 2005 and she is survived by son James (Diana) of Needham and daughter Sarah of Elkridge, MD. She also leaves grandchildren, Douglas of Rochester, NY, Kevin (Elizabeth Frenette) of Cambridge and Meriel of Boston as well as a great grandchild, Maeve. Beloved cousin Lesley Faber of Miami Beach, FL also survives. Sons Mark and Paul died in infancy.
Harriet’s professional endeavors included real estate sales and insurance administration. Her interests included her family, her faith, sailing, reading, history, art, and volunteer work. She was known for her polished appearance, loving demeanor, and love of dogs of any breed, size, and temperament. Instilling the value of education and service to others in her children. Harriet was proud of her German, Welsh, Swedish and Scottish ancestry. Harriet was proudly active with the League of Women Voters and worked tirelessly in favor of the Equal Rights Amendment in the 1970s. In retirement she volunteered at the Osterville Village Library, the Cape Cod Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shop, and with the Tales of Cape Cod. Though a vacation retreat, Harriet was most at home at Rygate, her home in Wareham, MA as not only was it a gathering spot for family and friends, Wareham is also the final resting place of her husband, children and parents.
A memorial service will be held at 1PM on June 26th at the Congregational Church of Needham, 1154 Great Plain Ave in Needham, MA. Burial will be private.
