Hedwig Vonnegut Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Hedwig L. (Imhaeuser) Vonnegut on Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at the age of 92. Born in Stangenrod, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany on April 14, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Berta (Schuerg) Imhaeuser. She was the beloved wife of Karl F. Vonnegut. She is predeceased by her husband Karl, her sisters Erika and Marga, and her brothers Kurt and Werner. Hedy grew up in Germany and met Karl in Cologne in 1952. They married in 1958 and moved to the United States in 1965. They resided in Plainview, New York for many years until moving to Franklin, MA in 1995. Hedy enjoyed cooking, knitting, caring for her yard, and tending to her vegetable garden. Above all else she cherished her grandchildren and enjoyed hearing about their many accomplishments. They were the loves of her life and brought her peace and joy. She was an incredibly caring woman who helped others before helping herself. Hedy is survived by her daughter Judith Hedman and her husband Eric, and two grandchildren, Monika Lina and Jason Karl Hedman. A Lutheran Funeral Service was held on Tuesday July 14, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the Eaton Funeral Home, 1351 Highland Avenue, Needham. A private burial followed at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Franklin. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Tippett Hospice Home in memory of Hedwig L. Vonnegut to support patient care at VNA Hospice & Palliative Care, Fund Development Office, 199 Rosewood Drive, Suite 180, Danvers, MA 01923-4539 or via www.vnacare.org/donors.
