Helen L. (Franey) Barrett

Helen L. Barrett of Westwood, formerly of Boston, MA and Hampton Beach, N.H., passed away peacefully on May 24, 2023. Born on August 15, 1933, she was the youngest daughter of James J. and Bridget A. (Heneghan) Franey. Helen was raised in Mission Hill with her two brothers, James and John, and four sisters, Catherine, Mary, Margaret, and Ann. She met the love of her life, Thomas P. Barrett, and they married in 1955 in Los Angeles, CA. The two native Bostonians returned to Massachusetts and spent the next 65 years surrounded by love, laughter, and family. Always cheerful and kind, Helen greeted you with a compliment or with one of her famous sayings. She spent over 30 years at the United Way creating positive, lasting change for people in need. Helen was the cherished aunt and great aunt to many adoring nieces and nephews; a dear friend to many at the United Way, in Westwood, at Hampton Beach, and most recently, at Sunrise of Cohasset.  Most importantly, she was Thomas’ loving wife. An inseparable pair, their love, sense of fun, and devotion to their large, extended family will live on in all who loved her. She will be dearly missed. Graveside service will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery, 990 LaGrange St., West Roxbury, MA on Thursday, June 1st at 11am.
