Helen Reiskin Obituary

Helen Kleinicke Reiskin, a dedicated nurse and educator, passed away peacefully at the age of 92.

Born in 1932 in New York City, Helen lost both of her parents at a young age. This led her to become a self-reliant and determined person. She put herself through nursing school, Hunter College (BA), Barnard College (MS), and later pursued a career in academia.

In the early 1950s, Helen moved to London to work as a nurse at Hammersmith Hospital, a significant step during that era. After several years, she returned to New York, where she met her future husband, Ira Reiskin, who was in medical school. They were married for over 50 years.

The couple moved to Newton, Massachusetts, in the mid 1960s, where Helen continued her academic journey. She earned a Master's in Sociology from Boston College, and a PhD in Sociology from Boston University. Helen went on to become a tenured professor at the University of Massachusetts, teaching for over a decade.

Helen is survived by her son, Robert Reiskin, his partner Evelyne Dubé, her daughter Elisabeth, and her grandchildren Helen, Thomas, and Olivia. She was known for her commitment to education and her love for her family.

Helen will be remembered for her strength, dedication, and the impact she had on her students and loved ones.
