Henry Morton “Mort” Smith, a resident of Dover for over 63 years, died on Tuesday, March 15 at the Mary Ann Morse Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Natick. Mort celebrated his 99th birthday on February 26th. Born in Parrsboro, Nova Scotia Canada, he was the son of the late Robert K. and Julia (Albapare) Smith. A Dover resident since 1947, Mr. Smith was the former owner of the Dover Garage and was a former member of the Dover Fire Department. Mort, along with his wife Myrtle enjoyed summers in Parrsboro Nova Scotia and Rangeley, Maine. The family would like to acknowledge the love and compassionate care that “Papa” as they called him, felt every day his past year from the nurses and staff of Mary Ann Morse and Brookhaven Hospice.
The beloved husband for 63 years of Myrtle C. (Wiggin) Smith, he was the father of Wayne M. and his wife Delores of Searcy AR, Shirley J. Grassie and her husband Leonard of Carroll NH, J. Elizabeth “Betty” Hagan and her husband Francis of Dover and the late Carole A. Molloy of Bellingham. Brother of the late Lloyd R. and Roy A. Smith. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In keeping with Mort’s wishes services are private. Expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to Mary Ann Morse Nursing and Rehabilitation Center Employee Fund, 45 Union St, Natick MA 01760 or to Brookhaven Hospice, 6 Beech St, Framingham MA 01702.
