Irene “Alice” Drew of Newton passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 20 with her loving family gathered by her side. She was 90 years young. Alice (LeBlanc) was raised in Arlington, graduated from Rivier College in Nashua, and lived most of her married life in Newtonville. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Dick Drew, and happily lived at Linden Ponds in Hingham for the past two years. As the matriarch of the Drews, “Mimi” was the center of all family information, celebrations, and milestones. She kept in close contact with her large and extended family, including seven children, their spouses, 22 grand and great-grandchildren, as well as with friends, especially her golfing group, and loved them all in her special way.
She is survived by her seven children; Michael Drew of Plymouth, NH, his wife Tracy, their sons Brendan and Rowan, Christine Werner of Simsbury, CT, and her husband Dave, and their children Corinne, Stephanie, and Jack, Stephen Drew of Plymouth, MA, his wife Tracy, and their son Christopher “CJ”, Bill Drew of Boston, his wife Patti, and their children Ali and Lindsey, John Drew, of Chelmsford, his wife Lori, and their sons Nick and Zack, Gia Drew of Portland, ME, and Ellen Claflin of Pembroke, MA, and her children Amanda, Patrick, Caroline, Colin, Emily, Molly, and Sarah. Alice is also survived by her two sisters, Pauline Doherty of Hingham and Jeanine Leblanc of Boston, and she was also the beloved aunt to 12 cherished nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday the 24th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Eaton & Mackay Funeral Home, 465 Centre St. Newton Corner. A funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady’s Church in Newton at 12 PM on Friday the 25th. Interment at Newton Cemetery to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
