Irene Annette Joslyn Guiney- Watson age 98. Born July 8 1926 died November 11 2024. A long time resident of Needham MA, she was born in Randolph VT to Clyde and Jessie Joslyn. Irene grew up in Waltham Ma and graduated from Waltham High School in 1941. Irene worked for the Needham school system for 38 years. She began her career at The Pollard school and became the registrar receptionist at Needham High in 1981. In 2004 she was awarded the William Powers award for administrative excellence. Irene was regarded as a hard worker, who never took a day off. She was known through out as the "energizer bunny", a spark plug with a great sense of humor. It was a common event when dining with Irene in a local Needham restaurant, people would stop by the table and say Hi Mrs. Guiney, remember me from high school? She always did. Irene never stopped learning or challenging herself. After retirement she volunteered for many years at Beth Israel hospital and the Needham Senior Center (The Center at the Heights).
Irene is predeceased by her first husband Robert J Guiney. She is survived by her loving husband Thomas Watson and her 5 children. Kathleen (Mike Bradley), Richard (Jennifer), James (Claude), Margaret Wood (Mark) and Steven( Margaret). Irene had 7 grandchildren- Aileen Guiney, Rycke Guiney, Emma Wood- Thomas, Abigail Brown, Hope Householder, Paul Guiney and Michael Guiney. Also 2 great grandchildren Tallulah Guiney and William Canter. She will be greatly missed by all.
Visitation will be held in the Eaton Funeral Home, 1351 Highland Ave, Needham, on Friday, November 22nd from 10-11:30am, with a service in the funeral home at 11:30. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name can be made to Friends of the Center at the Heights, PO Box 853, Needham MA 02492
