Jack B. Nance Jr., of Needham, passed away peacefully next to his loving wife Anneliese Golubić on Tuesday, 16 April 2019 at the age of 88. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Jack was the son of Jack Brown Nance Sr. and Elisabeth Ghent Nance, and predeceased by his brother William Nance of Marina Del Rey. Jack was born in St. Louis and raised in Houston and Baltimore. He attended Johns Hopkins University before joining the army and going through Officer Candidate School, serving as an artillery officer in the Third Infantry Division in Korea and Japan. Upon return to civilian life, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1955 and pursued a lifetime love of mathematics. Jack met and married Annie Stuart Grieg known as Nancy, and raised four children: Bruce, Chris, Laura and Tim mostly in Wayland, Massachusetts, while working as a mathematician / engineer at companies including RCA, IBM and MITRE Corporation. After Jack and Nancy parted ways, Jack met Anneliese Golubić in September 1987. Anneliese and Jack spent the next 32 years together in Needham, Massachusetts along with her sons Thomas and André. Jack enjoyed reading, hiking and left notebooks filled with obscure and mystical mathematical formulas everywhere he went. He was also proud of his 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Although at times cantankerous, Jack was a tremendously kind and loving man whose vibrant and mischievous sense of humor made an impression on everyone he met. He was a true character and will be sorely missed. A Memorial Service will be held in the Eaton Funeral Home, 1351 Highland Ave, Needham, on Wednesday, April 24th at 11:00 AM. JAck's family will recieve relatives and friends on Wednesday morning from 10:15 to 11:00 am, prior to the service.
