James Fraylick Obituary

James W. Fraylick, of Needham Heights, Massachusetts, died on Thursday, May 3, 2012. He was 87 years old. Son of the late Rachael (Swarthout) and Floyd W. Fraylick, he was born and raised in Van Wert, Ohio.
Mr. Fraylick attended Ohio State University, where he was a member and Pro Consul of Sigma Chi Fraternity prior to and after World War II. During World War II he was with the 282nd Field Artillery Battalion, a division of the Third Army under General George Patton. He landed on Omaha beach, France, at the time of the European invasion and was assigned as a forward observer. This unit moved across Europe to the Czech border when the war ended. James was awarded the Bronze Star for heroism and his deeds during many battles.
Mr. Fraylick spent a number of years with Dow Chemical; then worked with W.B. Saunders Company, a division of CBS, Inc., from which he retired. Since then and until his death, Mr. Fraylick volunteered at the Boston Museum of Science where he was on the Board of Trustees and President of the Volunteer Service League. He also volunteered at Tufts Medical School Library in Boston, and served on the Board of the Friends of the Needham Public Library. He spent two years at the American Embassy in Athens, Greece, while his wife taught at the American Community School there. Prior to this experience and until his death he and his wife traveled extensively across the globe.
Mr. Fraylick leaves his beloved wife, DeLaurice (Hauer) Fraylick; two sons: James A. Fraylick and his wife Delilah of Scottsdale, AZ and S. Kurt Fraylick and his wife Linda of Pleasantville, New York. He was the grandfather of Conor James and Caroline Clark Fraylick, both of Pleasantville, NY. His only remaining sibling is John R. Fraylick of Rocky River, Ohio.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Carter Memorial United Methodist Church, 800 Highland Ave, Needham on Saturday, May 12 at 10 am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Interment with Military Honors will be private. In lieu of flowers contributions in James' name may be made to the Permanent Memorial Fund of the Carter Memorial United Methodist Church or to the Alzheimer's Association, 311 Arsenal St, Watertown, MA 02472.
