James Arthur Tierney, age 79, of Needham, MA. Devoted husband of Barbara (Hill) Tierney from Painesville, OH; dedicated father of four sons: Timothy (Heather) Tierney of Holly Springs, NC, the late Thomas (Kathleen) Tierney of Holly Springs, NC, William (Anne) Tierney of Irving, TX, Eugene (Colleen) Tierney of Medfield, MA; proud and loving grandfather of 22. Dear brother of the late Honorable William J. Tierney, Clare Guerin, Thomas and Robert Tierney.
James (Jim) Tierney was born in 1941 to Thomas Emmett and Mary E. (Mahoney) Tierney. He attended St. Augustine’s Catholic School in South Boston before continuing his education at B.C. High School and then Boston College where he graduated in 1963. Jim took the train each day to work in downtown Boston at HUD for decades where he eventually served as Director of Multifamily Production for New England before retiring in 2004. He and Barbara were married in August, 1970. They lived in Roslindale, MA before moving to Needham in 1979, where they raised their four boys.
His family lovingly remembers him for his thoughtfulness, clever wit, discerning intellect, objective perspective, and sharp guidance in life. He took the task of raising four boys intentionally and truly appreciated the loving care of his wife to his last breath here on earth. His faith, family and friends were the center of his life. His boys grew to appreciate just how patient he was with them as they had children of their own. Fond memories and his words of wisdom will continue here on earth as he enters the Kingdom of heaven.
