Jane Nelson Obituary

Jane Louise Nelson of Holbrook, MA passed away suddenly in Naples, Maine on July 16, 2024.   She was surrounded by her husband, Dwight and dear friends.  Jane was born on June 23, 1940.

Jane was the daughter of the late Daniel and Mildred Butler and sister of the late Nancy Butler Flaherty.  Jane leaves her husband of 26 years, Dwight Nelson, of Holbrook, MA. Her surviving family includes stepsons Brian Nelson and wife Rachael of Toano, VA and Mathew Nelson and partner Sara of Hanover, MA and step granddaughter, Arya.  Jane is also survived by nephew Douglas Flaherty and wife Gail of Bardonia, NY, nephew Scott Flaherty and great niece Courtney Flaherty also of Bardonia, NY.  She leaves great nephew Bryan Flaherty and wife Kathryn of Valley Cottage, NY and their children Jack, Nicholas, and Thomas along with great nephew Sean Flaherty and his wife Melanie of Carmel, NY. She is also survived by her childhood pen pal, Pearl Woods and husband Roy of Leicestershire, England. 

She spent her childhood in Brockton, Massachusetts, where she attended Brockton Public Schools and was a graduate of the Brockton High School class of 1958.  She was employed as a computer operator and secretary at Franklin Auto.  later she worked at the U.S. Army Base in Boston.  She retired from the Hanson Printing Company in Brockton.  Jane’s first car was a yellow and white 1956 Bel Air Chevy, and Jane was proud to be the only licensed driver in her family.  

Jane enjoyed life, socializing with friends, traveling with her husband, and spending time with family.  She loved music, reading, Jeopardy, the Red Sox, and playing cards.  She was a kind, dedicated and loving caregiver for her elderly mother, Milly.

Dwight and Jane were married on June 27, 1998.  They resided in Holbrook, MA and were members of the South Congregational Church in Braintree, Massachusetts, where both Jane and her husband worshiped and enjoyed contributing and participating in church events.

A memorial service will be held at the South Congregational Church, Braintree, Massachusetts on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at 11 a.m.  A private burial will take place in the Bourne Massachusetts National Cemetery at a later date.
