Joan Larocca Obituary

Joan Frances Larocca, of Needham, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2025 at the age of 86.  Joan lived a life defined by devotion to her family, quiet strength, and an abiding love for beauty in all its forms.

Joan was predeceased by her first husband, Peter S. Morton, the father of her beloved daughter, Lori S. Morton.  She later found enduring companionship and love with her husband Raymond J. Larocca, with whom she shared nearly thirty happy years in both Needham, Massachusetts and Naples, Florida.

Joan was born in Waterbury, CT to the late Francis and Dorothea (Penner) DeBarberi.  She was a proud graduate of Katherine Gibbs School, which led her to a career as an executive secretary at Boston Federal Savings Bank.  She worked there with dedication, until the birth of her daughter, Lori, after which she chose to devote herself fully to her family and to creating a warm, welcoming home.

Above all else, Joan was deeply committed to her family.  She had a gift for making people feel comfortable, cared for, and truly at home.  Her home was always beautiful, thoughtfully kept, and open to family and friends - a reflection of the pride she took in her surroundings and the joy she found in sharing her home with others.

Joan had many passions, including knitting, cooking, plants, and flowers - all of which brought color and comfort into her life and the lives of those around her.  She also particularly enjoyed visiting the many historical and cultural wonders of New England and Southwest Florida.  Joan especially loved her many dogs over the years, each of whom held a special place in her heart and were constant companions to her.

She is lovingly survived by her husband, Raymond and her daughter Lori, and also lovingly remembered by her stepchildren, Jeffrey Larocca (Lisa), Leslie Larocca (Lew Sur), Carrie Donovan (Dan), Lynne Caver (Frank), and Jill Winicki.  She is survived by seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren through her stepchildren.

Joan will be remembered for her grace and kindness, her strong spirit, quiet resilience, and her ability to create beauty most especially through a welcoming home.  Her presence will be deeply missed and forever cherished by those who knew and loved her.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Joan’s aides and care team for the care and compassion shown to both Joan and the family over the past many months.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to an organization of the donor’s choosing in Joan’s memory.

A private burial will be held at Linwood Cemetery in Weston, Massachusetts.  A Memorial Mass to celebrate Joan’s life will take place on January 29th at 11:00 am at St. Paul Church, 502 Washington Street, Wellesley, Massachusetts.
