Joseph Evans Obituary

Joseph Raymond Evans of Brookfield died on Thursday June 9th at Avery Manor in Needham He was 92 years old. Born in Cranston, RI May 7, 1919 , the son of Albert and Alpheda (Guimond) Evans, the oldest of six children.
Mr. Evans was a World War II veteran, having served in the Merchant Marines.
Always known as “J.R.”, he had a charismatic, uncommon personality that was certain to liven up any affair, which he always promised to attend and “Be there with bells on”. A king of the one-liners he was always quick with a joke or a humorous anecdote. His flattering compliments became legendary.
A determined, independent person, he worked as a self employed travelling salesman, spending many years selling on Cape Cod and establishing a long list of loyal customers and acquaintances.
He had a close, special bond throughout his life with his one and only sister, Edith, with whom he shared many experiences.
An avid stamp collector, poker player and baseball fan, he would always have an insightful angle to share on any subject.
From his lucky number “220” to his farewell standard of “ABC” (always be careful) he left us with many good memories to share and he will truly be missed by those whom knew him best.
“J.R.” is survived by his son Daryl, daughter in law Linda and grandchildren Samuel and Nina as well as many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his siblings, Carol, Gilbert, Edith, Robert and Norman.
A Graveside service with Military Honors will be held at Mary Queen of the Rosary Cemetery, West Main St, Spencer on Saturday, June 18 at 11AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. To share a memory of “J.R.”, please visit www.eatonfuneralhomes.com
