Joseph Smiroldo, 88 years old of Newton, MA, died peacefully on April 3, 2022 at The Arbors Assisted Living in Stoneham, MA after a courageous battle with cancer.
Joe is survived by Gloria, his beloved wife of over 60 years, his son John, daughter-in-law Susane and their three beautiful children Valentina, Lorenzo and Antonella, plus many relatives in Virginia, Pennsylvania, NY and other parts of the country. He was predeceased by his son Joseph Jr., who died in 2021 after a lengthy illness.
Joe was born and raised in Buffalo NY, and received a BA from St. Charles Seminary NY and an MBA from Boston College. He spent the majority of his career in managerial roles at Honeywell, where he was known for his integrity and fiercely strong work ethic. He also taught graduate studies at both Bentley College and Boston College.
Joe and Gloria were married in 1961. He adored Gloria, dedicating himself to her happiness, and as they grew older took meticulous care of her every need. Joe was a devoted and selfless father, and no sacrifice was too great. His greatest hopes were for their well being and success. He had a brilliant mind, was strong willed and enjoyed writing and conversing with others. His many years in the Seminary rooted his Catholic faith. Joe loved God and celebrated the miracle of God’s love, often saying “my faith is my rock”. His primary parish was Our Lady Help of Christians in Newton, where he worshipped faithfully and volunteered with great joy and unstinting generosity.
A funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady Help of Christians Church, Newton, MA, at 10:30am on Saturday April 9, preceded by a viewing in the vestibule of the church, from 9:30 to 10:30AM.
