Karen D McGrath passed quietly into glory Saturday July 16th as the sun set. She was 54 years of age.
Karen lived a devoted Christian life. From the time before and after receiving her associate’s degree in theology, she traveled within the States establishing home churches and Bible studies. In later years she worked beside her husband in service to the homeless. Karen recently devoted her time to homeschooling her three children and was a home school advocate, coordinating the Dedham home school group. She particularly enjoyed organizing the children to sing for the aged in local homes at Christmas. She did this alongside her 12 year battle with cancer. In her last two years of life she fulfilled a lifelong dream in becoming a published author and worked as an editor for Museitup publishing.
Karen was the Daughter of John Hemmalin and Alicia H Price. Beloved wife of Paul McGrath and the loving mother of Erica Scott McGrath of Quincy, and Molly and Elizabeth McGrath of Roslindale. She was the sister of Eric Hemmalin of West Warwick, Rhode Island and Roxanne Brown of Palm Coast, Florida. A messianic style Christian graveside service will be celebrated at New Calvary cemetery 800 Harvard St., Mattapan on Friday, July 22nd at 10 am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Visiting hours will be at the Eaton Funeral Home at 1351 Highland Avenue Needham, MA on July 21 4pm to 8 pm. In lieu of flowers Karen’s family asks that donations in her name be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Center or to the Visiting nurses association hospice services.
