Karl Switzer Obituary

Karl Whitman Switzer of Needham passed away September 24 at the age of 88. Born in Waban, Whit graduated from Newton High school in 1941.
He went on to the University of Vermont where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta, captain of the hockey team and graduated in 1948 with a degree in business.
During World War II, he served in the Quartermaster Corps, primarily in India.
He had a long, fulfulling career with Forte Cashmere Company, and he traveled the world for both business and pleasure.
An avid sports fan, Whit shared his passion for golf, tennis, hockey, and skiing with his family. He was a member of both the Needham Tennis Club and the Dedham Country and Polo Club.
He believed strongly in giving back to the community. In retirement he found a second career as a volunteer and supporter of several organizations.
Whit will be lovingly remembered for his devotion to his extended family and friends, and as a man of tremendous integrity and generosity.
He is predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Joan Campbell Switzer. He is survived by his brother Dana Switzer of Denver Colorado, his children David Hardy Switzer of Lee, NH, Linda Aven Switzer of Santa Cruz, CA, Cynthia Switzer Roth of Gloucester, MA, Laurie Switzer of Encinitas, CA, and five grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at the First Parish Unitarian – Universalist, 23 Dedham Ave Needham on Saturday, October 8 at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Trustees of Reservations via www.thetrustees.org
