Katherine Dick Obituary

Katherine S. “Kay” (Stewart) Dick of Needham passed away peaceful November 20, 2021 at the age of 98 under the love and care of Whitney Place in Natick, MA.

Kay was born in 1923 in Watertown, MA, daughter to the late James and Melena Stewart
and surviving sister to Margaret and Barbara Stewart, and Louise MacLean. Kay was a 1942 graduate of Watertown High School. After high school, during WWII, she worked at the Watertown Arsenal. In 1946 she married her best friend Don and started their life journey together. Kay was a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, teacher, homemaker and friend. Her passion for life was driven by love -- love for her husband, her family, her friends, her church and her faith in God. Kay and Don were life-long members of The Presbyterian Church in Needham.

Kay loved having family gatherings in her home especially when her grandchildren and great grandchildren came along. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh, cook, knit, quilt and gossip with friends. She taught us to love and cherish life and to make friends with people for who they were, not for what they had. Mom was tough; however, she didn’t rule with an iron fist but rather a wooden spoon.

Kay was the beloved wife and best friend of the late Donald C. Dick and mother of the late Donna K. Dick. Kay is survived by her sons James and his late wife Donna Jean of Swanzey, NH, Stewart and his wife Kathy of Westford, MA; Don Jr. and his wife Adriene of Needham, MA and Gordon of Millbury, MA. She leaves behind her grandchildren John (Mary), Emily, Sarah (Ivy), Bobby (Jill), Katie (Ryan), Elizabeth (Rob), Izabelle, Gehrig, Michael (Kat), James and Juliana; her great grandchildren Isla, Coraline, Leightyn and “baby Apgar” (on the way any day now); her sister-in-law Barbara K. Dick and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be a private family service in December and a celebration of life to follow in 2022. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
