Katherine Gallant Obituary

Katherine E. Gallant, age 102, passed away in the Pines Edge Nursing home section of North Hill on Oct. 12, 2021.  Kay was born Sept. 12, 1919 in Somerville and graduated with high honors from Somerville High in 1936. She worked as a bookkeeper in Boston, then NYC.  In 1946 she married the love of her life, George M. Gallant.  George’s job promotions meant a move to Pawtucket, RI, then to West Boylston, then finally to Needham in 1958 where she remained until her passing.

Kay was an active member of the Carter United Methodist Church from 1958 until recent times.  Work outside the home included working for the Needham Public Schools, and later for D’Alessandro and Sons, and finally Ram’s business, United Diagnostics.  Throughout all these moves and the various jobs, Kay made marvelous friends.  For those of you who knew, you can attest that she was a true friend.   Her family always came first, but her faith and her friendships were close behind.  Kay’s hobbies included gardening, sewing, reading historical fiction, traveling to Nova Scotia, and knitting.   She was making baby bonnets to infants at Women’s and Infants in Providence at the age of 100!  She was also a faithful volunteer at the Glover Memorial Hospital for decades.

She was predeceased by her husband George M. Gallant (2001).  She is survived by her 3 children George M. Gallant, II and his wife Laurinda, Jean Sunny and her husband Guy Sunny, and Kathy Shaw and her husband Edward Shaw.  She was the proud grandmother of George M. Gallant III, Shannon Gallant Ansari, Andrew Gallant, Daniel Gallant, James Gallant, Rachael Mattioli, Elizabeth Bromley, Jee Sunny, John Sunny, Jennifer Braga and Amy Woynar.  Great grandchildren include Nicholas, Haris, Kahlil, Alexandra, Thomas, Sidney, Samson, Lilyan and Kylee, Liam and Brooklin.  She was a great great grandmother to Levi.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 23, 2021 at the Carter Memorial United Methodist Church at 800 Highland Ave, Needham at 12:00.  Covid restrictions apply.  Eaton Funeral Home in Needham is in charge of arrangements.  In lieu of flowers, financial contributions made be made to the Salvation Army, 25 Shawmut Rd, Canton MA 02021.
