Lawrence A. Caporal, Jr. of Wolfeboro, NH, previously of Brookline, MA, died Tuesday August 3, 2010 in Dedham, MA, surrounded by his devoted family. He leaves his wife of 53 years, Lois Kendrew Caporal of Wolfeboro, NH, daughters Cynthia Tamkin and her husband Jonathan of Needham, MA, Laura Geilen and her husband Mario of Hillsdale, NY, sons Kendrew Caporal of Brookline, MA, and Bruce Caporal and his fiancée Michelle MacLellan of Belmont, MA, as well as eight grandchildren. He also leaves his sister Joan C Sterling of Crownsville, MD.
Larry was born on December 5, 1931 in Quincy, MA the son of Lawrence and Madeline (Allen) Caporal. He attended the Quincy public schools, graduated from Massachusetts Maritime Academy and was a commissioned officer in both the Merchant Marine and the United States Navy. He resided in Brookline while managing retail sales at Alianza Gallery on Newbury Street for 27 years. In 1995, he retired and moved with his wife to Wolfeboro, NH where he enjoyed lake views and summers at the family’s Elm Point Camp on Tuftonboro Neck. He was a past president of the Governor Wentworth Arts Council and was on the Lay Committee of the Mirror Lake Church. Larry delighted in the arts, romance languages and the outdoors and found joy and reward in a full and artistic life, which he left without apology or regret.
Arrangements are by the Eaton Funeral Home of Needham, MA. Larry’s wishes include neither services nor calling hours. A private Memorial Service will be held at Elm Point Camp at a date to be announced.
