Lawrence (Larry) Robbins, 85, died surrounded by family in Pittsfield, Massachusetts on December 19, 2010.
Born to Blanche and Trevor Robbins of Whitman, Massachusetts, he grew up in Kittery, Maine, where he attended high school at Traip Academy. He received a degree in business administration from Becker College in Worcester, Massachusetts. While there he was vice president of his fraternity, Phi Theta Pi.
He was a district manager for General Motors Acceptance Corporation when he retired in 1989, after more than forty years of service.
A resident of Wilbraham, and Waltham, Massachusetts for the past 38 years, he was formerly of Needham, Massachusetts.
Mr Robbins was a veteran of WW-II, having served as a Naval Air Corp pilot.
He was active in the Boy Scouts of America and the Explorer Scouts, serving in various capacities, including scoutmaster and explorer post advisor in Needham.
He was a member of the Indian Orchard Fraternal Lodge of Masons.
Mr. Robbins was an avid skier and a proud member of the over 70 ski club. He also enjoyed Cape Cod and the Caribbean Islands where he liked snorkeling, scuba diving, and flying kites on the beach. He also loved music and participated as an amateur musician in several marching and dance bands.
During retirement he was a volunteer for A.A.R.P. and the leader of a G.M.A.C. retiree group.
Mr. Robbins is survived by two sons; Dr. Larry Robbins and his wife Kathleen, of Wilbraham, Massachusetts, and Dr. Wayne Robbins and his wife Ellen, of Grand Blanc, Michigan. A nephew, Dr. Donald Robbins Jr. and his wife Julia, of Marlette, Michigan. He leaves five grandchildren; Kate, Kevin, Jennifer, Beth and Christine as well as two grand nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Donald Robbins of Abington, Massachusetts, and his long time companion, Ms. Doris Ryerson of Dorchester, Massachusetts.
The Robbins family would like to thank Sugar Hill and it’s employees as well as the Hospice Services of Western Massachusetts for their expert and loving care.
Funeral services at the Eaton Funeral Home, 1351 Highland Ave Needham on Wednesday December 22nd at 12:00 Noon. Visiting hours on Wednesday from 11-12 prior to the service. Interment will take place at the Colebrook Cemetery in Whitman.
