Leo F. Richards III, age 61, of Norton, Massachusetts, peacefully passed away on May 26, 2025, in Providence, Rhode Island, surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with complications from glioblastoma.
Born in February 1964 in Fullerton, California, on his parents’ wedding anniversary, Leo was the beloved son of Leo Jr. and Helen Richards. He graduated from Needham High School and went on to earn degrees in Criminal Justice from MassBay Community College and Western New England College.
Leo dedicated over three decades of his life to public service as a Weston Police Officer, where his strong sense of community and deep commitment to others left a lasting impact. His kindness, professionalism, and willingness to go above and beyond made him a valued colleague and friend to many.
Beyond his career, Leo was a man of many talents and passions. He was an accomplished guitar player with the rare gift of perfect pitch. He found peace and joy in the outdoors—fishing and kayaking along the Sudbury River in Framingham. He also loved to cook, sharing his creations with friends and family and finding joy in the happiness his meals brought to others.
Leo is survived by his beloved daughters Julia, Patricia, Catherine, and Abigail; his devoted mother, Helen; his stepfather Joseph Dimarino; and his siblings, Lawence, Linda, and Lance. He was preceded in death by his cherished daughter, Mary Patricia, and his loving father, Leo Jr.
Leo will be remembered for his unwavering dedication, quiet strength, and the love he shared with everyone around him.
Visitation will be held in the Eaton Funeral Home, 1351 Highland Avenue, Needham, on Monday, June 2nd from 9:00 am to 11:15 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Church, 1360 Highland Ae, Needham at 11:30 am. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, 1 Wellesley Avenue, Needham.
