Lillian Gaita Obituary

Lillian (Cashman) Gaita of Middleboro, formerly of Walpole, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Morton Hospital in Taunton. She was 86 years old. Born in Boston, she was one of six children by the late Timothy D. Cashman and his wife, Lillian (May). Her siblings were Robert Cashman; Timothy Cashman, the late Mary (Robishaw); Richard Cashman; and the late Brian Cashman.

Lillian was a graduate of Roslindale High School. She was employed by The Boston Globe and worked in the (Roto Department) while also serving as the "voice" of The Boston Globe Book Fair for many years. She later worked for the law firm Goodwin Procter Boston and the office of the Board of Selectmen in the town of Walpole.

Lillian enjoyed travel throughout her life, including multiple visits to Mexico and Italy with her husband, the late Paul A. Gaita, also of Middleboro. She cultivated a lifelong affection for both world cinema and classic Hollywood films, as well as literature, music and politics, and followed the local and national news cycles with keen interest.

She was devoted to her children: daughter Christina, of Newton, and son, Paul, of Los Angeles, as well as to her daughter-in-law, Christy (Kallhovd) and especially her granddaughter, Tess, also of Los Angeles. She was also the loving aunt of Denise Nietzel of Walpole and Michele Gaita of Mansfield, great-aunt to Jackie Mustafa of Taunton, and many other nieces and nephews.

Services will be private for her family. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital https://www.stjude.org/give/memorials-and-dedications.html
