Lois Barovich Obituary

Lois Essex Barovich

Lois Essex Barovich passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2024, with her family by her side. She was 92 years old.

Born in Corning, New York, on July 21, 1932, Lois was the daughter of the late Wilfred and Mabel (Householder) Weese. As a child, Lois was raised by her mother and her favorite aunts, Eldora and Viola, strong women who taught her to use her voice. Lois had fond memories of her mother’s restaurant—Dean’s Galley—and the eventful years she spent living with Mabel in their cozy apartment in Queens, NY.

As a young mother, Lois brought up her daughter Vicki in Sunnyside, Queens, and White Plains, NY. During those years, after her brief first marriage, she was an executive secretary at Decca Records, Pan American Airlines, and Ernst & Ernst. She enjoyed working in New York City and kept up with all the fashion trends, something that was essential to her all through her life. In New York, Lois met the love of her life, Andrew Barovich, and they were married on August 4, 1962.

Andy was a sales executive with UARCO Inc., and they made their first  home in Queens, where their son Jeff was born. They moved to North Branford, Connecticut; Roswell, Georgia; and Nokomis, Florida, where Andy retired in 1996. They cherished their life together in Florida, enjoying the warm weather and sunshine. When Lois lost her beloved Andy in 2021, she moved to Boston to be with her family.

Lois embraced her new life in Boston, creating a beautiful home by exploring the unlimited possibilities of online shopping. She was up-to-date on all the happenings in the world, courtesy of the New York Times, the Today show, and People magazine, and always had an informed opinion regarding current events. She was an excellent listener and dispensed meaningful advice with wisdom, grace, and humor.

Her unexpected move and the bittersweet change in her life brought Lois the opportunity to enjoy the company of her loved ones every day. She cherished visits with Jeff’s friends and Susan’s family when they were in Boston, and her quick wit and uninhibited sense of humor kept everyone on their toes!

She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Jeff Barovich, and his wife Susan; her beloved granddaughter, Dana Barovich; her daughter, Victoria Sivigny, and her husband Walter; and her extended family, the Toscanos.

A private service will be celebrated in the coming months.

Gifts in Lois’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692, or www.heart.org.
