Lorraine H. “Lori” Phelan-Swan of East Falmouth, formerly of Blackstone, passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2019. She was 75 years old. Born in Needham, she was the daughter of the late Helen Grudak and Joseph Soltys. She attended Needham and Medway schools and was a graduate of Medway High School Class of 1961. Lori graduated from Northeastern University Class of 1966 BA English and received her Masters in Education from Lesley University. She was a dedicated high school English teacher at Medway High School for 35+ years. Lori loved teaching English literature and it was recognized as she was awarded Teacher of the Year. She served as Class Advisor for the Medway High School Class of 1983 and again 1992. Lori was loved by all. Loved her family, her strong Polish heritage and holiday traditions, the beach, traveling, BeanPot Hockey games…and Elvis Presley.
She was the beloved wife for 36 years of her devoted husband Ernest Swan of East Falmouth formerly of Wellesley and the late Wilton R. “Dickie” Phelan. Loving mother of Joseph R. Phelan of Norton, formerly Blackstone and Tania L. Phelan of Waltham, formerly Blackstone. Dear grandmother "Babci" of Michael J. Phelan and Abigail M. Phelan both of Norton. Sister of Frederick J. Soltys and wife Jacqueline of Needham and Cape Cod and Bernice J. Michel and husband Richard of Mendon. Lori is also survived by her cousins; Joan Bush of Mashpee, Francis Bielski of Westwood, Raymond Kodzis of Lunenberg, formerly Millis, Laura Ziemba of Marstons Mills and the late Robert Bielski of Franklin.
Visiting hours in the Eaton Funeral Home, 1351 Highland Ave, Needham, on Thursday, January 10 from 4-7. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Mary Immaculate of Lourdes Church, 270 Elliot St, Newton Upper Falls, on Friday at 10:30 AM. Interment at MA National Cemetery in Bourne on Friday at 2:00 pm.
