Lucile Weston Obituary

Lucile M. Naples began her adventurous life in Limoges, France. Born to Sgt. John S. Naples, USMC and Blanche Marie (Lironcourt) Naples on August 18, 1918, she travelled with her parents to the US at the end of the First World War. The family settled near John's parents in Portland and Lucile attended Portland schools, graduating from Portland High School. Lucile went on to Colby and then Wheaton colleges before getting married to her Portland sweetheart and the birth of her son.

She moved with her new family to Cambridge, Mass. returning every summer to Long Island in Casco Bay. She began pursuing postgraduate education, receiving an MS from Jackson College, then a PhD in microbiology from Radcliffe. Having divorced, she fell in love with and married her dissertation advisor, Professor William H. ("Cap") Weston. The two settled in Wellesley, Mass. where she continued to live after Cap's death in 1978.

Lucile remained active in various academic institutions in eastern Massachusetts; among them Wellesley College, Curry College and the Harvard Alumni Association. She took up keyboard music, and schooled herself further with a degree in counseling. She was active in the Wellesley Council on Aging and enjoyed getting together with her friends, and taking care of her cats.

Lucile is survived by a son, Richard Craven and his wife Nancy, of Falmouth, Maine; a stepson Seth W. Weston, of Tampa, Florida; a stepdaughter Sabrina B. Weston, of Cambridge, Mass.; grandson Mac Craven and his wife Chandra, of Brookline, Mass.; grandson Andy Craven and his wife Lacey of Virginia Beach, VA; and cousins in the greater Portland area and in France.
