Mariel’s long life was distinctive in so many ways. Raised in both Lima, Peru and Washington DC per her father’s career, she received her undergraduate degree from Trinity College in Washington DC and her Doctorate in History from Catholic University in Lima. For thirty years, she lived and worked in New York city as a translator at the United Nations before moving to Needham to be with her beloved daughter and her family. She returned to Lima frequently and shared its art and culture with her American friends. As a life-long learner and teacher, she gave back by tutoring, until her last days, students of all ages who would also become friends.
Visiting hours will be on Friday, November 21 at Eaton Funeral Home at 1351 Highland Avenue, Needham beginning at 9:30 am followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 at St Joseph’s Church in Needham. Burial will be private.
