Mario A. Fatini of Needham died on Thursday, July 15, 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Needham He was 76 years old. Born in Capestrano, Italy, Mario was the son of the late Silvio and Carina (Rainaldi) Fatini.
Mario was a decorated member of the French Foreign Legion for many years and
fought in both the Algerian War of Independence, and the second Indochina War in Vietnam. He immigrated to the United States from Italy in 1966 and started and
developed a successful landscaping and contracting business and fostered many
lasting friendships in the community. Mario also had a deep appreciation of music, gardening and a tremendous sense of loyalty and respect for those that he loved.
He was the beloved husband for 43 years of Alvia (DiFiore) Fatini and the loving father of Robert A. Fatini of Needham. Mario was the brother of Federico Fatini and his wife Felicita of Centerville, Lina (Fatini) Iannamico and her husband Mario of Italy and Floris (Fatini) Lembo and her husband Carl of Waltham. He was the brother in law of John Ahigian and his wife Iva Ahigian of Westwood, Giuseppe DiFiore and his wife Agostina of North Reading and Fernando DiFiore and his wife Ornella of Capestrano, Italy. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Eaton Funeral Home 1351 Highland Ave Needham on Monday July 19 at 9:00 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Church at 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours on Sunday from 4-7 PM. Interment will take place at Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Needham.
