Martha Magee Borgeson, 76, of Troy, New York, and Bayside, Maine, died November 27 from complications of lung cancer. Affectionately known as Mima, she is survived by her daughter, Dawn Beaver of Darien, Conn., her stepdaughters, Pamela Montgomery of Scarsdale, NY, and Kim Brosche of Nashville, Tenn., her brothers, William, Robert, John and Jeffrey Magee and her sister, Melinda Rooney. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jackson and Nicholas Beaver, and her stepgrandchildren, Sasha and Kyra Montgomery. Martha was the beloved daughter of William and Kathryn Magee, both of whom predeceased her, and will be interred in the family plot at Holyhood Cemetery in Brookline, Mass. Martha held a BA in political science from Fordham University and a MPA from New York University. She had a distinguished career in public service, serving as Executive Deputy Appointments Officer under Governor Mario Cuomo, then as Director of Regional Services at the Department of State of New York and later as Assistant Commissioner of Agriculture for the State of New York. She was an active volunteer in several national, state and local political campaigns, as well as being involved in local community activities in Bayside. Passionate about politics, travel and jazz, Martha was known for her boundless enthusiasm, insatiable curiosity, indomitable spirit and her warm and caring disposition. She truly lived life to the fullest and was an inspiration to all who knew her. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, December 18,2010 at Our Lady Help of Christians Parish, 573 Washington Street, Newton, Mass. A second memorial service will be scheduled for the summer of 2011 in Bayside. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her memory to The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (www.jdrf.org).
