Mary Epps Boze
October 22, 1934 – October 7, 2023
Mary Epps (Eppie) Boze, artist and writer, died on October 7, 2023 in West Roxbury, MA, near Needham, MA, her place of residence since May 2021.
Eppie Boze was born on October 22, 1934, in McKenney, VA, the youngest daughter of Wythe Howard Boze and Rena Faison Boze. She graduated from McKenney High School in
McKenney, VA in 1951. She attended school for X-ray technicians and began her medical assistant career in Dinwiddie County, VA.
Eppie married James Henry Bramble, who died July 20, 2021. They were married for 20 years and lived in Maryland, Ohio, New York, Wisconsin, abroad in Sweden and Italy and
raised four children.
In Ithaca, NY, Eppie began painting and studying art at Cornell University. She also completed summer painting studies at the Rhode Island School of Design. Her fine art
practice continued throughout her life. While in Ithaca, she worked in the Music Department at Cornell University and later became the Artistic Director of the Ithaca
Players, a community theatre company.
Eppie then moved to Massachusetts and worked in the Philosophy Department at Brandeis University for 17 years. While at Brandeis, she had a solo art show, a wonderful celebration
of her work over the years. After retiring, she moved to Athens, GA to experience the arts and southern culture and then to Austin, TX to be with her son James and family, and
finally settled in Needham, MA with her daughter, Tamara and family. She happily became a part of the Needham Senior Center Community.
Eppie was an engaging, curious, and fiercely independent woman who loved painting, poetry, music, museums, gardening, and connecting with nature. Being well-read, she
enjoyed conversations about philosophy, life, and the arts. Her charm and southern grace helped to cultivate a large group of friends from all over the world. She embraced
creativity in all aspects of her life and encouraged her children to hold those principles close.
Eppie’s parents, four brothers, and four sisters predeceased her. Surviving are three daughters, Margot Bramble Dermody and husband, Terence, of Pittsburgh, PA, Tamara
Bramble Lamenzo and husband, James, of Needham MA, Mitzi Bramble and partner Robert Percy, of Harwich, MA; a son, James Howard Bramble and wife, Tarah, of Austin, TX. She
had eight grandchildren, Michael Dermody, Daniel Lamenzo, David Dermody, Zoë Iacovelli, Jacqueline Lamenzo Sinha, Peter Lamenzo, Zachary Kassay and James Bramble. Also
surviving are two great-grandchildren, Asher and Rama, as well as her sweet dog Emily Dickinson.
