Mary Ann Carey of Needham, a longtime educator in Syracuse NY and Boston elementary schools passed away on Aug. 16, 2012 after a valiant struggle with cancer.
Born in Syracuse, NY she graduated from Cathedral Academy High School and received her Bachelors and Masters from Syracuse University and later her CAS from Boston University. She worked as a reading specialist in the Boston Public Schools for many years. A resident of Needham for over 30 years, Mary Ann was a docent at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, served as a member of the Boston College Adjunct Clinical Faculty, and had sung in the choir at St. Joseph's Church.
Mary Ann was the daughter of the late James F. Sr., and Mary (Collar) Carey, and is survived by her sister Kathleen Carey and her husband Steven Ferrey of Newton, her brother James F. and his wife Deborah of Syracuse NY and her niece and nephews Maeve and Ryan Carey of Washington DC, and Cameron and Curran Ferrey of Newton.
Her funeral will be from the Eaton Funeral Home 1351 Highland Ave (Exit 19B off Rte 128) NEEDHAM on Mon Aug 20 at 9 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Church at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Visiting hours are Sun from 5-8 PM Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Syracuse NY on Tues at 1 PM.
