Mary "Betty" (Barron) Cohen

Mary “Betty” Elizabeth (Barron) Cohen, age 89, passed away suddenly in Needham on Friday, January 27, 2023. She was born on February 23, 1933 in Brookline to James and Elizabeth (Carroll) Barron.  She was the wife of Robert T. Cohen for 62 years.  Betty grew up in South Boston and Alexandria Virginia, and lived in Needham for 61 years.

Betty loved classical music and was a subscriber to the Boston Symphony Orchestra for over 65 years.  Classical music was always playing in her home and car.  Betty was also passionate about painting.  She was a watercolorist and enjoyed showing her art in the Needham Library, local stores and at the art shows at Marina Bay in Quincy.  She was a member of the Needham and Canton Art Associations.  

As a Southie native, Betty supported the Castle Island Association and loved to visit the Fort and have lunch at Sullivan’s. She enjoyed traveling abroad but the Cape Cod beaches were her favorite.  She treasured her summer vacations to North Eastham.

Betty is survived by her loving children Cheryl and Anthony Marino, Janet and Greg Hennrikus, Robert and Susan Cohen, and James and Margaret Cohen.  She is also survived by her grandchildren: Christopher Marino, Anthony Marino (Jillian), Allyssa Marino, Jacqueline Maxwell (Michael), Brittany Hennrikus, Gregory Hennrikus (Laurie), Mitchell Cohen, Julie Cohen, Michael Cohen (Natazia Fistrovic), Mary Kathryn Cohen, and great grandchildren Camille and Hendrik Cohen. 

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at 10:30 am at the Eaton Funeral Home, 1351 Highland Ave, Needham followed by Mass at 12:00 pm in St. Joseph Church, 1360 Highland Ave, Needham. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.  Interment will follow the Mass at the New Calvary Cemetery, 800 Harvard St, Mattapan.  

Donations can be made in Betty’s name to the Good Shepherd Community Care, 160 Wells Ave, Newton MA.
