Mary Gannon Obituary

Mary J. Gannon of Needham, formerly of Newton and North Cambridge, died on Thursday March 1 2012 at Wingate at Needham. She was 93 years old. Born and raised in Dorchester, along with her 5 siblings, she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Julia (Connors) Harrington. Mary was a graduate of Saint Gregory's High School and attended Katherine Gibbs in Boston where she was trained as an executive secretary. She married her late husband John F. Gannon in 1944 and they settled in North Cambridge where they raised their 3 daughters. Mary was an active member of the Guild of Saint John and the Catholic Daughters of America. She worked for many years in a variety of roles for the Cambridge School Department and served as secretary of the Cambridge Teachers Federal Credit Union. Mary enjoyed the Women's Club in Newton Highlands and was a former resident of the Weeks House in Newton Center. She loved Cape Cod and travelling.
The beloved wife of the late John F. Gannon, she was the mother of Patricia Kelly of Needham, Janice Mahoney of Wellesley and Jacqueline Somerville of Newton and mother in law to Dan Kelly, Steve Mahoney and Robert Somerville. Grandmother of Ryan Kelly, Jennifer Dube, Katie Kelly, Stephen Mahoney, and Connor and Jake Somerville and great grandmother to Sloane Hendricks and Henry Dube'. Funeral from the Eaton Funeral Home 1351 Highland Ave Needham on Monday March 5 at 9:00 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Church at 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours Sunday 4-7 PM. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury.
