Mary A. Leenhouts of Needham passed away peacefully with her family by her side, on January 10, 2019. She was the wife of the late Lawrence E. Leenhouts, who died in 1984. Born November 25, 1922 in Richmond, Michigan, Mary was the daughter of the late Albert F. and Rena B. (Fanning) Lindke. She was predeceased by her twin brother Albert F. Lindke, Jr. and her sister Margaret Stump. Mary was a graduate of Michigan State University and in 2018 she received the Order of the Diamond award from Delta Zeta sorority, for 75 years of membership. Mary was a resident of Needham for 60 years. She had been an active member of the Postcomers Club, the Community Council, the Friendly Society, the Garden Club, and was a past President of the Needham Women’s Republican Club. She enjoyed tennis, bridge, travel and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. She is survived by six children, Lorilyn K. Leenhouts Spears of Colorado, Edward M. Leenhouts and Marianne Schultz of South Carolina, Carol Leenhouts Cox of West Boylston, Douglas A. and wife Karen (Hathaway) Leenhouts of Franklin, Richard H. and wife Deborah (Poirier) Leenhouts of Bellingham, and Jeffrey A. Leenhouts of California. She was Gram to 16 grandchildren; of Janet Spears McIllece, Brian Spears, Eric Spears, Kenneth Leenhouts, Daniel Leenhouts, Jennifer Leenhouts, Kristen Leenhouts, Alan Lucia Jr., Jason Lucia, Nicholas Lucia, Meredith Leenhouts Flynn, Andrew Leenhouts, Lisa Leenhouts Woodworth, Kathie Leenhouts, Grayer Leenhouts, Harrison Leenhouts and to her 20 great grandchildren; Colin McIllece, Zachary McIllece, Kyle McIllece, Kaleigh Spears, Addison Spears, Lily Spears, Jimmy Adams, Nadine Lucia, Brenden Lucia, Cadence Lucia, Madisyn Lucia, Aiden Lucia, Patrick Lucia, Rory Flynn, Liam Flynn, Nora Flynn, Allison Woodworth, Ethan Woodworth, Leighana Boutiette and Aliyah Boutiette. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her visiting hours on Monday, January 14, 4 - 7 PM in the Eaton Funeral Home, 1351 Highland Ave, Needham. Her funeral service will be held in the Chapel of the Congregational Church of Needham on Tuesday, January 15th at 11 AM. Burial will follow at Needham Cemetery.
