Mary Elizabeth "Libby" Sheehan

Mary Elizabeth "Libby" Sheehan, a lifelong Newton Centre resident, died on Jan 31, 2012 at the Elizabeth Seton Residence in Wellesley. She was 90.
Libby graduated from Sacred Heart School in Newton Centre and received the Girl Scout "Golden Eagle Award "during her senior year. She graduated from Emmanuel College with a BS in Economics in 1942 and was a member of the Emmanuel College Alumnae Assoc. Libby worked for the Girl Scouts of America for over 40 years and had been director of Personnel and Training for the Girl Scouts of RI. As an adult she received the "Thanks Badge" from the Fitchburg Girl Scout Council for her "loyal, faithful and dependable service". She also received the "Presidents Award" in recognition of over 40 years career service to Girl Scouting. She was a longtime member of the Guild of St. Frances at Sacred Heart parish.
Libby was the beloved daughter of the late Lavina M. (Grimes) and Edward B. Sheehan M.D. and sister of the late Edward B. Sheehan, Lavina Cheever, Patricia Sheehan and Teresa Cunningham. She is survived by her nieces and nephews Robert Cheever of Lebanon ME, Elizabeth Cheever of Marblehead, Mary Ellen DiCesare of Newark DE, James Cheever of Orange CA, Lavina McKenna and David Cheever both of Duxbury, Edward Cunningham of Waban, Arthur Cunningham of Bow NH, Dennis Cunningham of Waban and Teresa Cunningham of Beverly and 21 grand nieces and nephews and 23 great grand nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be from the Eaton & Mackay Funeral Home 465 Centre St. NEWTON CORNER on Fri Feb 3 at 10:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart Church Newton Centre at 11:30 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Visiting hours are Thurs 4-7 PM. Interment will take place in Holyhood Cemetery Brookline.
