Maureen A. Ferris,79, formally of Bradford and Haverhill, passed away after a brief illness. Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Eugene (Gene) J. and Ann J. Ferris.
She is survived by her brothers Eugene (Gene) J, Ferris Jr. of Milton, Robert P. Ferris and his wife Karen Kelsey of Shelter Island, NY, and Peter M. Ferris of East Dennis. She was predeceased by her brother Neal P. Ferris and her sisters in law, Jeanne M. Ferris and Lee A. Ferris. Maureen also leaves behind several beloved nieces and nephews, as well as numerous grandnieces and grandnephews who brought her much joy.
A dedicated educator and public servant, Maureen earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Boston State College. She began her career in education before devoting many years to public service. Her distinguished career included serving as Executive Director of the Massachusetts Legislative Children’s Caucus, Research Director for the Committee on Children, Families and Persons with Disabilities, and Public Policy Director at the Children’s Trust Fund, from which she retired.
In retirement, Maureen remained active in her community, she volunteered at the Haverhill Public Library, assisted with voter registration for the City Clerk’s Office, and served as a Director of the Duston-Dustin Garrison House.
Visiting hours are Wednesday, January 14th in the Eaton Funeral Home, 1351 Highland Avenue, Needham, MA from 3:00 to 6:00PM
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be in St Joseph’s Church, 1360 Highland Avenue, Needham, MA Thursday January 15th at 11:00 AM. Please meet at church.
In lieu of flowers donations in Maureen’s memory may be made to the Haverhill Public Library, 99 Main Street, Haverhill, MA 01830
Interment is private.
