It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Michael F. O’Brien of Newton who passed away suddenly on Monday, January 13, 2025, at the age of 56. Born in Newton, Michael was the son of Elizabeth “Betty” (Morrissey) and the late Stephen J. O’Brien. Michael was the proud and loving father of Colleen and Shea O’Brien of Attleboro, the brother of Stephen and his partner Carol Hoogasian of Worcester, and the brother of Sean and his wife Mary O’Brien of Waltham. He was the uncle of Danny and Maggie O’Brien. Michael is also survived by the mother of his children Kathleen (Miller) O’Brien of Attleboro, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and countless friends.
In his youth, he actively participated in several sports, spent time with his brothers and their neighborhood friends, and was always the life of the party, making everybody laugh. Michael was passionate about staying fit throughout his life, earning a brown belt in karate, taking boxing classes, and golfing with friends. He was a man of immense humor and strength, cherishing every moment spent with his loved ones.
Colleen and Shea were the center of his world, and he would speak often to anyone who would listen about their accomplishments and talents. Michael was a proud Irish American as evident by his collection of over 30 scally caps and multiple Irish tattoos. In more recent years, he was a loyal caregiver for his mother. They frequently enjoyed a cup of tea alongside his Aunt Joanne while either gossiping or watching Judge Judy. His absence leaves a void in our hearts. His passion and his unwavering spirit will forever be remembered. The impact he had on those who knew him will be felt for years to come.
Visiting hours will be held in the Eaton and Mackay Funeral Home, 465 Centre St, NEWTON CORNER, on Tuesday, January 21st from 4-8pm. To commemorate his remarkable life and the memories we cherish, A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 573 Washington St, Newton, on Wednesday, January 22nd at 12 Noon. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury. We welcome all who knew him to join us in celebrating the life of a man who was loved deeply and will be missed.
