Nancy C. Lankford, 80, died surrounded by loving care on October 25, 2022 following a lengthy illness. Born in Baltimore MD in 1942 to Albert E. and Clara P. Lankford, Nancy was a long-time resident of Needham MA. She was predeceased by her parents and is survived by her sister Martha P. Lankford of Wilmington DE as well as several cousins and many long-time friends.
Nancy spent her early life in Maryland until 1958 when the family moved to Woodstown NJ. She graduated from Wellesley College in 1964 and then earned her Ed.D. from Harvard. She was employed by the Newton Public School District as an educational psychologist until her retirement.
Nancy was a lifelong fan of the Baltimore Orioles and the Boston Red Sox. She enjoyed summer vacations on Cape Cod where she relished entertaining guests. She was also a devotee of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and other regional arts.
Actively involved at Christ Episcopal Church in Needham, Nancy served in many capacities including Vestry, Church School Teacher, and long-time coordinator of Christ Church’s partnership with the MANNA Monday Lunch Program at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul, providing meals to the Boston area homeless community.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Celebration of Life service at 2:00 pm on Sunday, December 11, 2022 at Christ Episcopal Church Needham, 1132 Highland Ave. Needham MA 02494. In lieu of flowers, gifts to Christ Church Needham, the MANNA program at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul, 138 Tremont St. Boston MA 02411, or the charity of your choice would be welcome.
