Onita O'Neal

Onita O’Neal of Needham was born November 14, 1936 in Moundville Alabama. August 27, 2023, was the time of her passing. She was 86 years old. Mrs. O’Neal was a longtime Needham resident. She worked at Day Star Nursing Home and Avery Manor Nursing Home as the Activities Director until she retired in 1997. In retirement, Onita enjoyed doing crafts. She was a 50 year member of the Peoples Baptist Church in Boston.

She was the loving mother of Vallerie F.  O’Neal-Thorpe of Roxbury, Nancye C. O’Neal of Chelsea, VT, and Micheal D. O’Neal of Needham.  Grandmother of Christoher E. Thorpe, Lauren N. Thorpe-Reed ad great grandmother to Zadia A. Thorpe. Aunt of Calvin McCoy Jr and former wife of The Rev. Eddie S. O’Neal. Also survived by a host of extended grandchildren and friends. Onita was preceded in death by her son Eddie S. O’Neal; her parents John Winston Flanagan and Bertha Lee Flanagan; siblings John Flanagan and Juanita Robertson and grandparents Henry and Eva Lou Hall and many other cherished family members.

A Funeral Service will be held in the Eaton Funeral Home, 1351 Highland Ave, Needham, on Thursday, September 7th at 10am. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 4-7pm. Interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Needham.
