Oonagh Gill passed away peacefully on March 7, 2025, in Newton, Massachusetts, at the age of 96.
Born on August 15, 1928, in Salisbury, Southern Rhodesia (Now Zimbabwe). Oonagh pursued a distinguished career in nursing. She trained at Dundee Royal Infirmary, becoming a State Registered and Pediatric Registered Nurse. Her passion for nursing flourished later when she transferred to the Rotunda Hospital in Ireland, where she developed a deep commitment to patient care. Oonagh specialized in Maternity nursing as a State Registered Midwife in The Rotunda Hospital where she met her beloved husband, Michael.
Beyond her professional life, Oonagh found immense joy in her family. One of the greatest highlights of their life was adopting their three children, an experience that brought her profound happiness and fulfillment. Oonagh was survived by her beloved husband, Michael Gill; their children, Deirdre Gill, Michael Gill, and John Gill; and her grandchildren, Michael Gill, Patrick Gill, Kevin Gill, Robert Gill, and Abraham Gill. Oonagh is also fondly remembered by their niece Shonagh Dunn and nephew Michael George. She was predeceased by her brother Desmond McCormack and sister Sheilagh George.
In addition to her devotion to family and career, Oonagh had a love for needlepoint and knitting—hobbies that reflected her patience and creativity. Oonagh specialized in Aran Island sweaters.
A graveside service will be held on March 18, 2025, at Newton Cemetery, located at 791 Walnut St., Newton Centre, Massachusetts. The service will begin at 10:30 AM and conclude at 11:30 AM.
Oonagh’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
