Peter W. Lee of Needham, MA passed away at his home on Sunday August 25, 2024 at the age of 77. He is survived by his daughter India Lee, his son Zachary (Laura) Lee and their children Annabelle Lee and Samantha Lee, as well as his sister Carolyn McAlear and his beloved dog Co.
Peter was born to Gerald and Anna Lee and remained a resident of Needham his whole life. Peter graduated Needham High School in 1965 and quickly afterwards chose to serve his country in the Vietnam War in the Navy from 1966-1972. He received a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, multiple Campaign Medals, a Presidential Unit Citation and a Bronze Star for his service.
After returning home, he attended Fitchburg State College and received his Bachelor of Science in Education and continued to serve the community by taking a position at Brookline High School where over the next 33 years he taught hundreds of students in woodshop and metal shop. These skills were not just taught to others but put into practice when he decided to build his own house right next door to his childhood home.
After retiring, Peter continued to work on projects in his home, build furniture for family and friends and restore classic cars. He even kept the same Land Rover running that he bought in the late 70’s, a well known sight around town.
Though he was a man of few words, he will be most remembered as the brilliant-minded, beret-wearing, dog-loving man everyone knew him as.
Visitation will be held at Eaton Funeral Home, 1351 Highland Ave, Needham, on Friday, September 6, 2024 from 10 – 11AM, followed by a graveside service with Military Honors at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Needham, MA.
