It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Philip Allen Johnson, 83, of Mashpee Mass, (formerly of Needham, Mass.)  on 27 January 2025. Philip passed away peacefully at Royal Cape Cod Nursing Home at Buzzards Bay.

Born on 2 December 1942 in Needham, Mass. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army serving at Ft. Dix, New Jersey, Germany and other locations. He also served in the Massachusetts Army National Guard. Phil served his country and state with honor. Following his military service, he dedicated many years of his life to his hometown and community, He was a member of multiple organizations, and was a Master Gardner, a Masonic member of Norfolk Lodge and President of the Needham DPW Association. His last job was working for the Town of Needham before retirement and this  was his most rewarding where he was known for his strong work ethic and commitment to those around him.

Above all, Phil was a devoted father to his three children, Karen, Karl and Kristin and Karls’s wife Margaret. His love for his family was unwavering, and he cherished the time spent with them. He loved camping, fishing and gardening with his family. He also leaves behind his two grandchildren, Kathryn Roberts, her husband Ryan and Brandon O’ Connor, Phil had many friends and colleagues who will remember him fondly.

In his free time, Phil enjoyed many pastimes including fishing, hunting, gardening, woodworking, stone cutting, faceting, building furniture and all types or craft working. His projects were as meticulous as his famous writing. Phil used to say he was a jack of all trades and master to none. One of Phil’s favorite pastimes was cooking family dinner for the family and enjoying it with everyone. The house growing up was filled with neighborhood kids and everyone knew Mr. J.  Later in Mashpee all the neighbor kids and dog walkers would stop by Phil’s house for a treat and a chat. Phil’s kindness, humor, and generosity will be missed by all who knew him.
