Phyllis Irene Sette (Hittel), was born in Boston, Massachusetts on January 18, 1941, to Albert Hittel and Etta Hittel (Silverman), the second of their three children. They lived in Dorchester, and later moved to Mattapan.
Phyllis moved to Los Angeles in 1961, where she raised her 2 children, Alan Sette and Stephanie Sette, with her then husband, Gerald Sette. While raising her children Phyllis utilized her elegant design sense to create beautiful homes for her family, and later for clients. She enjoyed hosting dinner parties for her friends, attending Alan’s ice hockey games, Stephanie’s dance recitals and equestrian events, and keeping her children fashionably dressed.
Phyllis enjoyed traveling, with a particular love for being out on the sea. Her travels took her throughout Western Europe, sailing up and down the eastern seaboard, with special affection for Nova Scotia, the Caribbean, and through the Panama Canal. She was a major sun lover, and also appreciated a good snow storm.
In 1980, Phyllis returned to Boston to live. She enjoyed being near her family and childhood friends. She was introduced to the clothing industry, creating a sample sale business. And housed international universities students, bringing diverse cultures and backgrounds together at her dinner table.
Phyllis was a proud member of the YMHA alumni reunion group, and one of the Dorchester Girls.
