Richard W. “Dick” Beecher, retired Lieutenant Newton Fire Dept, of Needham, passed away on Thursday, April 1, 0201. He was 94 years old. Born in Newton, Dick was a son of the late John and Clara (Sheridan) Beecher. Dick was a US Army, World War II Veteran, serving in Occupation of Japan. He later served as a firefighter for the City of Newton for 40 years, retiring as a Lieutenant. Dick was a member of the Lt. Manson H. Carter VFW Post 2498 in Needham. He loved skiing, skating, boating and golf. When he wasn’t at the coffee shop with his friends at 5:00am, Dick could be found at the dump or tinkering in his basement with his latest new found treasures.
He was the beloved husband of Arlene (Notari) Beecher and the loving father of Robin Beecher Fitton and her husband Paul Fitton and Brian Beecher. Dear grandfather of Ryan and Chelsea Fitton. Dick was the brother of the John and Robert Beecher and Barbara Beecher Watson. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. A visiting hour will be held in the Eaton Funeral Home, 1351 Highland Avenue Needham, on Tuesday, April 6th from 9-10am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Mary Immaculate of Lourdes Church, 270 Elliot St, Newton Upper Falls at 10:30am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Interment with Military Honors to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Needham. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverley Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452 or to the Newton Fire Department, 1164 Centre St, Newton MA 02459.
