Richard S. Hackett, 86, passed away unexpectedly at home on November 16, 2021. He was the beloved husband of the late Ann M. (McNeaney) Hackett for 67 years. He was the loving father of Lee A. Ferris and her husband Peter of Dennis, Karen E. Hackett of Spencer, and John L. Hackett of Beverly. He leaves behind five granddaughters, Kaitlyn A. (Ferris) Brickhouse and her husband Michael of Chicago, IL, Elizabeth T. Hackett of Beverly, Lauren A. Ferris and her wife Kristin of Halethorpe, MD, Sara J. Hackett and her fiancée Nick Guido of Salem, and Margaret G. Hackett of Wenham. He was a devoted “B-Bampa” to his great grandson Beckham J. Cregg.
Richard was the son of the late Charles L. and Evelyn C. (Case) Hackett. He is survived by his siblings, Charles Hackett Jr. and his wife Claire of Spencer, Carol Lulu of Sutton, Dorothy Gosselin of Spencer, and Robert Hackett of Auburn. He was predeceased by his brother, William Hackett. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
Richard was a proud graduate from St. John’s High School, Temple Street. He spent most of his work years at Johnson Steel and Wire in a variety of positions, culminating in production management. After retiring from Johnson Steel, Richard worked part-time for the Massachusetts State Lottery, Ferris Casket Company, and Ragsdale Chevrolet.
He and his wife enjoyed playing bingo and visiting different casinos across the country. They also enjoyed traveling on extended family vacations to Disney, the Caribbean, Bermuda, and the Dominican Republic.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Richard’s family on Monday, November 22, 2021 from 4pm to 7pm at the Chiampa Funeral Home, 5 Church Road, Shrewsbury, MA 01545. In keeping with the Covid-19 guidelines, all attendees are kindly asked to wear face coverings and practice social distancing while at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at 10am at Mary, Queen of the Rosary Parish in Spencer. Interment with military honors will follow at Mary, Queen of the Rosary Cemetery.
