Rita Fowler Obituary

Rita Nancy Fowler (Nassner) age 92, of Bedford, NH and formally of Nashua, NH, Estero, FL, Dedham and Needham, MA passed away peacefully on January 24, 2024 after a brief illness.  Born and raised in Baltimore, MD, she graduated from Sacred Heart School and the Baltimore School of Beauty Culture.  She moved to Chicago, IL where she worked as a secretary at an insurance agency.  She met and married Robert (Bob) Fowler in 1954.  He was her husband of 67 years before passing in 2021.

After returning to Massachusetts, she settled in Dedham, MA where she raised her three children.  Rita worked retail part-time, while volunteering as a Den mother for the Cub Scouts, PTA member for her children’s schools and at Medfield State Hospital working with the patients. 

In 1970, Rita joined the US Census Bureau as a census taker and then later transitioned into the Boston offices where she worked for 15+ years.  Her love of travel drew her into the travel industry.  She worked at Sunset Travel in Needham up until the time she retired.

Rita was a longtime parishioner of Christ Episcopal Church in Needham, MA where she volunteered as choir mom, usher, and alter guild.  She was also very active member of the Couples Club and was well known for making pizza during the annual church fair.

Rita’s family includes brother Louis and Debra Seifert of Rochester, MN; her children son Paul and Catherine Fowler of North Andover, MA; son Rob and recently deceased Margaret (Peggy) Fowler of Santa Barbara, CA; and daughter Shari Fowler-Hutchinson and Tim Hutchinson of Merrimack, NH. Rita is also survived by two nieces, Angela Nassner Robinson (Rodney), Lisa Nassner Raimondi (Michael); 5 grandchildren: Jamie (Gaby) Fowler, Trevor George Fowler, Makenzy Fowler, Makayla and Melanie Hutchinson; as well as 5 extended family grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; 5 extended family great-grandchildren and many cousins. In addition to her husband and daughter-in-law, Rita is predeceased by her parents Pancratius (aka Ben) and Margaret Ann Nassner (Kispert), brothers Fred, Clarence, John and Ken Nassner.

Rita enjoyed traveling to new places, reading, knitting, gospel music, volunteering and watching the Young and the Restless.

Graveside services are private.  A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2024 At 11:00 AM at Christ Episcopal Church, 1132 Highland Avenue, Needham, MA.
