Rita L. (Welch) Sheehy

Rita L. (Welch) Sheehy, a lifelong Newtonville resident, passed away on March 18, 2025. She was 95.

Rita graduated from Our Lady’s High School and received a degree in accounting from Bentley School of Accounting in Waltham. She worked for the Carter Company in Needham, Gamewell Corp. Newton, Weston Public Schools and Pace. She was a founding member and served on the board of directors Barry L. Price Rehabilitation Center in Newton.

Rita was the daughter of the late Daniel and Mary (Herlihy) Welch and the loving wife of the late Richard C. Sheehy Sr. and mother of the late Mary R. Sheehy. She is survived by her son Richard C. Jr. and his wife Julia Shea, her daughter Linda A. Sheehy and her grandson William Figliolini all of Newtonville. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Mary McMillen, Daniel and Gerard Welch, Alice Patterson and Joan Sheehy.

Her funeral will be from the Eaton & Mackay Funeral Home 465 Centre St. Newton Corner on Mon Mar 24 at 9:30 AM followed by her Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady Help of Christians Church at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery Waltham. Visiting hours are Sun 4-7 PM.

Rita was one of the founding members of the Barry Price Rehabilitation Center in Newton, donations in her memory to the Price Center 27 Christina St. Newton, MA 02461 would be appreciated.
