Robert Bernard Carr Jr.
(1950-2024)
Robert B. Carr Jr., age 74, born in Newton, MA to Robert B. Carr and Jane Leighton Carr, died peacefully surrounded by his close family and friends on October 31, 2024. One of four children, he grew up in Auburndale, MA with his family and spent every summer in Maine with his extended family of whom he remained close. Robert attended the Franklin Institute, gradating in 1971 with a degree in Engineering and worked for Haemonetic’s corporation for 35 years. Robert was diagnosed with a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy, Beckers, in 1972 and although being diagnosed at such a young age Robert went on to live a full life. He had three children, and three beautiful grandchildren who were the center of his life. Robert was a family man, but he was also community man, whether it was his church community, housing community, or the town where he lived, he made friends with everyone he encountered. He absolutely loved talking to people and hearing their story. Though he didn’t have much, he would give the shirt off his back to help anyone in need and instilled those principles in his children and grandchildren. He was very active in his church community at Carter Memorial United Methodist Church singing in the choir, going on mission trips over the years, and working the pumpkin patch each October. He was also very involved in the community as a member of the Commission of Disability in Dedham, MA. Even though he suffered many challenges regarding his health over the years, going from fully mobile to eventually wheelchair bound, it never stopped him from being active every day. One of Robert’s favorite pastimes was singing, he would sing anywhere and everywhere he went, and often had his karaoke machine with him to break into song at any moment. When he’d be in the hospital or nursing home recovering from one of his many health issues, he would always sing to the other patients to pass the time. He also loved cars and racing, building/designing model boats/cars, drawing, writing in his journal, and seeing his children and grandchildren of whom he was so proud. Robert had the opportunity to live in many communities throughout his lifetime and is fondly remembered by everyone he befriended. Words that his friends and family used to described him; kind, loving, thoughtful, compassionate, funny, a hero and warrior.
Robert is survived by his daughter Christine Lane and granddaughter Amber Lane of Noblesville, IN; his son Shaun D. Carr, wife Theresa Carr, grandson Shaun D. Carr Jr and granddaughter Lillian Carr of Tewksbury, MA; and daughter Michelle A. Carr of Watertown, MA. His brother Bernard Carr II, wife Gail and nephews Kevin and Matthew; brother Stephen Carr, wife Themis and niece Elizabeth; and sister Eloise Thibault and nieces Stephanie and Jessica. He also leaves behind many close family and friends who will miss him dearly.
